Best recomendations for a tach and any other gauges I need?
Trying to tie up the loose ends on my Ford N Benz project and am looking at the gauges I need to, or want to, add or include to keep a close eye on this engine.
So far I have the volts meter, and temperature sensor on the dash working, along with the fuel gauge. Hopefully by tomorrow I will have the speedometer/odometer working. The parts just arrived yesterday.
I would like to add a tach at least. It would be great if I could use the one in my dash, but I could not conclusively find the source of the signal. I suspect it came from the distributor, or the alternator, but not sure.
I'm also wondering about a boost gauge for my turbo. The Mercedes had a gauge in the dash cluster, but I didn't save it. It seemed to go up and down inconsistently, but that may have been due to the turbo being worn. I did rebuild the turbo before re-installing it in the truck.
Some guys say the EGT is a must, but others say it's not worth it. I am not tuning this for high horsepower, I want fuel economy. I travel a lot on the highway, and carry some tools. Hence, I wanted a truck, over my diesel Jetta. Just can't handle the load.
Any others?
I would also prefer to keep the truck as close to stock as possible, but am willing to add gauges that are really important. I'm thinking I could make a nice cover plate for the ash tray space and fit them in there. I'm a non-smoker, so that is no loss.
Thanks for the inputs guys!
