I like the Phoenix adapter, also, but I wonder how close it gets in the transmission tunnel with a larger bellhousing of the small block ford. There isn't a lot of space in there with the Ranger transmission.

Yep, going with the Dakota now. Found one with a blown engine for $1000 but they guy will take a lot less, he pulled both engine and tranny so that's that more much work i dont have to do. along with the cheaper adapter costs, it is the easiest on the wallet and unique since usedkubotaman did a S10 and FTE did a Ranger. I get to use stock tranny too, so thats one more thing i dont have to buy. Hopefully i can pick it up this weekend.

what about in a Suzuki Samurai?

i like it

i have a friend with a Samurai and there seems to be plenty of room in the engine bay. his has a lift on it so that would make more room down under. it is a light vehicle so the Kubota should have no problem pushing it around

FINALLY bought a vehicle to start on, 86 Suzuki Samurai. It doesnt have extra front accessories on the front like AC so I don't need to make a plate. All I need is a vacuum pump. But the project has officially started. It desperately needs this engine because the power is anemic compared to what i know it can be

I haven't been home much but when I am my nose is in the engine bay of this samurai. The steering just got a whole lot easier since I noticed it was manual - no power steering. Doing measurements, I'm really not sure i can fit my engine in there without some major fitment issues. Stock engine is about 21" from tranny to front of fan, V2203 is 26" (pics will come tomorrow to explain my predicament). I can get a different radiator that is longer and shorter that will fit farther to the grill to get about 4". I haven't looked but I think its a divorced transfer case so I can move the tranny back if needed too. I'll drive it like it is till I have time to start
