Default 01 Frummins Help

I dropped an 01 Cummins into my Excursion, and im having a little problem. The motor seems to be defueling, or hesitating at about 50% throttle. Anyone else done this swap into a Ford body? Looking for any help you can give, thanks.

Default another 01 ex

I belong to several sites and there is a guy on the ford site that has done what you have done except his is a manual he has lots of experience and a wealth of knowledge there are several of us on here that are either in the process of doing a swap or have finished and are driving theirs

I would wonder if you are not getting air in the system

Try talking to GOS Performance | High Performance Diesel Parts | Bozeman / Livingston, Montana, 800-620-4467 they have done a lot of cummins swaps and know their stuff.

Thanks a lot for the help guys, I will try to contact both of these people you suggested.

Deck60, what do you mean not getting air to the system? Do you mean with the intake? Or perhaps with the intercooler? Please elaborate, I'm pulling my hair out over this thing.

yes correct-- air in the fuel lines -- I had trouble with my 12v in the past with air in the fuel i put on a clear line from the fuel filter and when you shut it off you could actually see the air bubbles entering the system

check your intake path for obstructions and fuel for obstructions try something real simple use a 5 gallon can instead of your fuel tank that will eliminate that watch your return for air --- air and diesel do not mix in the injection system

yours sounds more electrical to me the 24v has a controller on the side of the engine I don't know where all the wires hook up

any one out there have that info for him that way he can double check

keep us posted

Deck, thanks for the tip, but my fuel lines are good. I have had this problem since the very first time I fired the motor up. Since then, I've added the Raptor fuel pump with 1/2" fuel lines, and a new vp44 with no luck. It is getting plenty of fuel, I think its a wiring problem somewhere too, but I have double checked everything and can't seem to nail it down. Any insight on the wiring would be greatly appreciated, I don't mind checking it a third time!

I just read that info you posted on the 24V electronics and sensors. I tried unplugging the camshaft sensor on my motor, and the engine acted no different with it plugged in vs unplugged, that made me believe the sensor was bad, I replaced it, and still the same thing. Should that throw up some flags?

well this is interesting I am a 12v have not had much to do with the 24v but!!!!

if you unplugged the cam sensor and it did not change then I would check a few things
1-- ohm the wires to the sensor and check your grounds usually the cam sensor has a ground make sure it is grounded and that he engine is also some times computers use and isolated ground
2 check that what ever the sensor reads on a pin on the gear etc that it is there and properly adjusted
3-- could be the ecu itself sounds it is in limp mode to me

this forum is great but this sounds like a cummins issue this forum is great for die hard cummins problems post on there also the more places you post your issues the more info you will get

Andrew, you might be my hero! I spoke to a guy named Aiden today at the shop you listed above and he knew exactly what I was talking about, and he says the motor is in limp mode. Turns out the 01 24V needs to have a gauge cluster to communicate with, he tells me if I change out the ECM for that of an ECU out of a 2000 24V motor all my problems will go away! He seems very confident and extremely knowledgeable with these motors. Thanks again for the help, that's my next step.

Now to another question, anyone know where I can get my hands on a 2000 ECU for a manual tranny and a wiring harness?
