Default 93 7.3 idi to a powerstroke

I just recently puchased a 93 Ford F-350 with an 7.3 with an ATS turbo on it. And Happened to come across a 97 powerstroke motor and I was wondering if it would be wish to swap to a powerstroke or just stay with mine the way it is. Any advice would help Thanks

I have never been much of a PS fan, so I would say stay with the IDI To me they are a lot more trouble free and much cheaper to work on.

Lots of wiring involved with the powerstroke. A cummins would be an "easier" swap. Nothing wrong with the powerstroke, or your 7.3 IDI (that was my first diesel). I think you can tweak the pump a little but don't know if it makes much difference.

cummins 12 valve, because computers go on desks, not a truck!

I would read up on the ol' IDI first. They can make some decent power with a turbo on them. If you want to invest some coin in the IDI, search "moose pump" and "moose injectors". If you are more toward the free side of bombing, look up how to turn up the injection pump (there is an internal fuel screw you can access from a small triangle plate on the side of the pump...takes an allen wrench to adjust it...try it one "flat" at a time, i.e. 60* turn at a time). As long as your IDI doesn't have a pesky Dual-Mass flywheel to come apart, it'll do pretty much whatever you ask of it, all day, any day.

Yes, I'm a hypocrite because I pulled my N/A IDI for a Cummins 12 valve...but with power comes responsibility, and I'm on Cummins engine no. 2 already

A powerstroke is nice but would be a lot of wiring to get it to run and glow plugs are a bitch to replace.I'm with them a cummins would be a better swap less things to do to have it running.

I agree 93cummins, I loved my 94 idi fact. Turbo. Don't think they can take much more than 12psi boost with fact. pistons, but not sure. Those old 6.9 and 7.3 idi's can run just as long as a 12v. My boss had two idi's that both went over 600k with only needing rblt inj pumps. I built my fummins for mileage and durability so I only went with the free power adders

to swap you need the entire truck harness to swap into your, including the dash and ECM. lots of work.
