1985 Chevy Crew Cab Cummins Swap
I have a 1985 2wd crew cab chevy and I want to do a straight axle conversion and cummins swap. Anything specific I should know? Should I buy a full truck or just an engine and trans? And what is the best year cummins for this type of project? How should I go about doing the axle conversion the best way? Any help would be great!!

To make it a 4x4 you kinda need a 4x4 truck for parts but most of it will bolt right on.You will have to cut out the trans tunnel in the cab the 4x4 ones was taller then a 2wd one.Engine most say the 94 up 12 valve is better then the earlier ones just depends how much power you are looking to make with it.What trans depends on if you want a auto or stick auto will cost more but can be done.I would get the 4x4 swap done first then go for the cummins. As far as motor mounts Avalanche Engineering - (970)884-7716 - Extreme 4-wheeling parts and accessories to complete turn key vehicless and Auto World Shop Online on the trans if you try to use a gm one to the cummins Destroked - THE Cummins Conversion Company : Home Page has adapter plates and flex plates for the swap.
