transfer case options
I would think seriously about keeping that getrag they were a problem from the start sell the getrag and get a nv4500 or a 6 spd you can buy a 2wd 4500 cheap and then drop in a new output shaft a fifth gear fix get a cast adapter then your options are better you can go with a 241-243 or even better a 271-273 you would have a 29 t output and you an get inputs for both of the nv trans cases
the 271-273 is what I am using mopar makes a input shaft for the t case that fits perfect with the fifth gear fix installed you would have to machine .030 off the end of the shaft no big deal then you can use the ford output for the front drive-shaft and get the right output from a junk yard for the rear drive shaft
you can turn the 273 into a manual so easy that its a viable option and you could use the 27? that is in the ford
if you need any specifics on where to buy this stuff for the 271-273 I have all of it and a pdf service manual also

1 more thing if you use the 271-273 from your sd then then both outputs will match up to the ford and all you have to do is change the input there is a place in texas that stocks the input shaft
I screwed up on mine I traded my 271 ford for a 273 dodge that came out of a manual had the wrong input so I had to change it any way

I wouldn't be afraid of the getrag, just overfill it by 1 qt and ONLY use 5w30. Like deck60 said, Allstate gear in San Antonio tx sells the 29 spline gear for your superduty t-case($165) and it goes in real easy, just get a good set of snapring pliers. The getrag bolts right up like it's factory. It's clocked a couple degrees counter clockwise which is good for lining up the front driveshaft when a leveling kit is installed. Nice thing about the 271/273 is they are a dime a dozen if you blow one up, lot easier to get a hold of than a 205 or 241. All cummins tranny's should bolt up to the 271/273 so you could use the getrag now and upgrade to a nv4500 or 6spd down the road.
By the way, is your supdty a auto or manual?

Yeah I don't know if there was a run of some bad getrags or what. I have heard of some guys puttin over 700 ft/lbs through some with no failures. I have a friend with a 93, stock rag made it only 80k miles, the replacement is still goin with over 300k and he pulls hay wagons on a regular basis. Seems like they hate lugging a little more than your average tranny

271-273
I know on the 4500 you can and if my memory serves me right the getrag is the same on the output side they had the gear on hand and it is actually a mopar part here is the link

part # 5086311AA
any other issues let us know I am at transfer case right now I used the 4500 and the 5th gear fix which ads a little inside the transmission and now with the 273 I have to machine .030 off the input for it to fit

"need 98.5 or newer to get the engine down lower"
I used 1st gen but I had to change the angle of the stock bracket on the drivers side. I would like to switch to different mounts eventually, the stock 1st gen dodge mounts transmit a lot of vibes. If your s/d is an auto your center hump is about 5" lower than the manual so you can only get the motor and tranny so high, but it works
