Default Chevrolet 1 ton original Cummins?

I was looking into buying a 1 ton GM truck that appears to have a factory intercooled cummins (looks like a VE pump). I think he told me it was an 83 or 84 model. The truck definately looks like it came from the factory with the engine. Anyone with some insight would be greatly appreciated. I tried Google with no luck. Thanks

Man, I haven't ever heard of anything like that. Unless it was special ordered that way.

i been around awhile and never saw one bought new that way. 350, 454 and the half breed diesel was all that was out at that time.

Never happened. But my friend has been doing some pretty sweet chev conversions of that era that look factory and all the factory gauges and ac and so on are all functioning. All without a lift kit of any kind which b4 was said to be impossible to do without it.

Never a Cummins offered in a light duty Chevy truck. There wasn't even a 6bt before 84 and no intercoolers on them till later. I would say someone has done a good job at a swap.

what he said they didn't even have 6b's in equipment untill 86 or 87 and the first ones were non turbo .. the 4bt actually came out first in 84 in some case backhoes...

there was a kit sold by case and cummins dealers to swap 350's for 4bts in the late 80's that is how most of the bread vans first got them...

Arrow Didn't come that way......

I would like to see some pictures of it. I like that body style for some reason. All of the reasons given above are right. You didn't really mention it but I am assuming it was a 6B engine. Those Cummins weren't around when that truck was new. I'm not sure when GM put the first 6.2s in and they certainly didn't offer any other diesels in a Chevy. Still like to see some pics of it. Be an interesting swap for sure.
Stay safe out there.
Ken

The first diesel chevy put in pick ups was the Olds 5.7.
