Default help/guidence with a 2.8 crd conversion

hello everyone,im new to the site but have been lurking around here for the last few months. looking for some help or guidence on my project, its a 97 jeep tj that im planning to put a low mileage euro model 2008 2.8 crd from a military jeep that a friend got me for the cost of shipping it to the states(was 1/4 the price of buying a used liberty crd from a local junkyard and from the factory no egr!!!).it was shipped with the computer and wiring harness but somewhere between there and here the box with those parts vanished and i havent been able to replace them yet and at a stand still because of that.so far i have the drive train worked out, planning to use a nv3550 5speed with a rubicon tcase. my main question is does anyone know of a stand alone computer the will run a bosch cp3 pump with piezo injectors? I know bosch sells one in the but the price is over $6000!!! also i have the vin and my local jeep dealer cant find or import the computer.most anything else i need for it he can get it for me.if not what would it take to make the motor all mechanical? i know theres a guy taking vw tdi pumps and turning them to mechanical pumps and ive heard of people in europe making the vm 2.8 engine non electronic so i know it can be done. my goal for this is a power range of 175+hp,250+ftlbs tq and for 30+mpgs.

You problem is called SKIM. It is the build in theft control. Even if you have a new ECM, the IP will not start. Once the IP has learned security code it will never forget. You should contact Jeep.

I live in europe- but I never heard about making the vm 2.8 non electronic- you can bet your butt- I would know. It is not possible, because this engine interferes with every sensor in the drivetrain, about 20(!) different sensors! I don't know from where you did get this information, but this very unreliable. Emissions are very, very strict here and the 2.8 is in emission class 4 - a mechanical step down does not give you emission class 4 and is- if possible- not street legal.

A realistic range is 24-28mpg, if you use the horses you estimate, your mpg drops down to 20mpg.

The wrangler is available as a 2.8CRD in germany since a couple of years. Pictures of the engine should float on this site- I took them and uploaded them here. A girl I know has the CRD, but she claims bad mpg with 31" tires.

the skim would not be a problem, here in the states I can have the computer modded and the theft control deleted, they do it all the time with vw tdi computers and i already had a company lined up to delete the program but my computer and wiring harness disapeared during shipment.the company i have lined up can set up a computer to be a stand alone,3wires to make it run on a engine stand! my problem is that i dont have the computer and my friend has since came home from overseas.we put an 01 alh engine in a 90 toyota 4x4 for a him and it cost $500 for the computer work, they did the theft delete and put a tune in it and the only parts we used other then the engine was the drive by wire throttle, wiring harness, and computer. If push comes to shove i will get an american liberty wiring harness and computer.Ive been quoted prices on the used parts and I figure buying the liberty parts and getting them modded would run me about $1200 to $1500 or more and the wiring will be different.if i could find a new stand alone computer for that price i would buy that instead.also ive been watching ebayuk hoping for a computer and wiring to show up but no luck yet.

slowly.losing the factory ecm and wiring during shipping slowed me down.A friends girlfriend who is in college in italy sourced a used ecm computer from a 2008 liberty 2.8 crd with a manual transmission for me,I just got it this last week.monday morning on the way to work im going to stop by my local mopar dealer and have him order me a wiring harness for my engine using the vin number on the engine and a set of manuals for the fuel system and electronics.also just ordered my rubicon transfercase, hopefully its going to be here within a week.my local mopar parts tech and the main mechanic are in love with the idea of this swap and are really stepping up to the plate on any help i need getting it done.they advised me to build a engine run stand(waiting till it cools off some) and get it running on the stand before doing my swap, its easier to bring it into the mopar dealers shop on a trailer to put it on the computer for troubleshooting.my mopar tech says it CAN BE DONE!!! it just takes time to get all the kinks worked out and once its running on a stand its on!
my time line is to have it done by christmas.

once I have everything together and a run stand built i am going to start documenting everything with pics and when im getting the engine ready to run there will be lots of video uploaded to youtube.there's no real info on doing this swap,so its time someone gets some info out there in cyberland and it might as well be me. so far the engine and transmission are together, using a bellhousing off a 3.9 v6 dakota(mine is a 98 model) my nv 3550 transmission bolted up just fine. also i want/need to correct something i said in my 1st post about not having an egr,it does have an egr its just smaller and not like the american egr system.I was hot and in a hurry unloading it and didnt really take a lot of time checking it out.

the swap got put on the backburner for the moment, had 2 people drop high dollar rifle builds in my lap 1 week apart.working 6 days a week driving a truck and its very hard to find the time to do anything with only getting off for 34hrs on the weeekend.also had both of my computers crash and decided to just break down and get a new one.i have a friend offering me a 4bt installed for a ar15 build for him.might take him up on it till my time frees up and i can keep moving forward with the 2.8 project(maybe in a comanchee?)

A Comanche would be such a cool Diesel-powered rig.
