Welcome to the group! Make sure to do a build thread on this, a friend of mine is dying to have an old scout and he's thinking of swapping in a diesel. Should be interesting

Rangmar: The radiator setup came from a 01 Volvo S60, I’m sure it’s the same as the S80. It’s a nice neat package that should be easy to mount and fit nicely. I’ve already built another thermostat housing, I don’t like the Frankenstein look it has but I’m afraid of an air pocket, the custom t-stat housing allows me to add a vent just to make sure there no air lock. This will be even more important with the Volvo radiator, it doesn’t have a cap on the radiator itself it uses a remote mounted bottle.

Dieselxj: It’s funny I was only going to pull the intercooler of the Volvo when it dawned on me to use the entire setup. Nice tight package with nice built in mounting ears. I even considered using the condenser but figured I better stay with the OEM GM condenser just to make sure they are matched well. I paid $71.00 for the entire radiator setup. CHEAP!!

FTE: The shop is great now, my home away from home!

Here’s some more pics of the progress.

Thanks guys!

nice work. you make accessories look easy. I know you had to work at your first one, but your second one seems to be coming along quick

This might be a little premature but do you have a sale price in mind on your current truck I have some family in Benton county (camden) who might be interested.

Thanks Dieselxj! The second one is much easier and should be better, you just figure out what to do differently.

Rangmar: Haven't made up my mind exactly what I'll do with the first truck yet but I'll you know.

Mike I know this probably does not need to be mentioned But do not forget the hole needed in the plate to enable you to adjust the Fuel Screw.

UsedKubotaMan as far as Air Trapped in the cooling system something that will greatly help is to Drill a 1 or 2 1/8th holes in the thermostat. Some of the so called High Performance Thermostats come that way. Some people drill 1 and some drill 4 . I pretty much stay with 1 unless I feel a bit goofy then I will run with 2.

Thanks Jester, it’s a work in progress, I drilled the hole for the fuel screw today. Here are some pics of the different bushings and spacers I made.

Caddy Tinkerer: Yes I will use two plates again but I won’t know what size plates until I get the flywheel back form the machine shop, they should be the same but won’t know for sure until I get it back. I think the last plate were 3/4 and 7/8 but I can’t remember for sure. I can’t figure a way to do it with one plate without some type of CNC or other milling machine. The two plates are just cheaper.

T-stat, I just want to be certain there’s no trapped air in the system, this is why I use the home-made T-stat housing, just extra confidence when I fire it up.
