Default mercedes om617 2000 jeep xj

I have been planning on putting the om617 in a 2000 jeeo xj for close to five years now. I am just now getting around to it. My problem is my xj has the automatic transmission in it and i haven't been able to find an adapter for it. I have been thinking about making and adapter to bolt the np231 transfer case right to the mercedes transmission. Has anyone out there tried that yet?

Most of the swaps using the Benz trans have gone with a divorced t/c.

I sure like my 700r4. The super low first gear really works well with this motor.

that is the one I am looking at. It looked like high quality to me. if I have to buy something, I only want to buy it once.

Well all I need to do now is start collecting the parts. I have a line on a couple 300D's for a good price. Which ever one I choose looks decent enough to drive around and play with until I am ready to pull the engine.

There are several other complete Cherokee build threads on this site, you can use the search function to get at them ( Mercedes Cherokee) are good search words. There are also some helpful threads on trans shifting on NAXJA.org. I was able to get mine to shift after a fashion, but not too my liking. The home made shifters are not too difficult to make as there are only 3 shift solenoids in the jeep AW4.
Have fun with your project, try and start your own build thread , with lots of pictures
