wandering if you guys that have made this swap could answer a few questions?
do I HAVE to do a body lift,really don't want to,if I don't have to.
would like to put air to air in it. Any suggestions?
Do I need to use the computer so all my gauges, etc. will work?
Fuel system, can i use gm gasoiline set up,or do i need to change electric pumps?
Any info will be handy,thanks
P.S Will post pics when I get started.

Thanks for the info. Glad i won't have to do a lift. I want to leave it as stock as possible.

your 89 is the same bodystyle as my 97 Suburban......right? except it has a solid axle up front.
I didn't need to do a bodylift on mine and it is intercooled. I used the IC out of the 95 donor truck but it took a bunch of work to the core support. You could get by with the 1st gen IC/radiator as it is smaller and easier to get shoehorned in. Check out Gr8shot's conversion for how the 1st gen stuff looks.
As far as your ecm goes......your gauges....oil, water, volt, and fuel don't need the ecm to operate. You'll want to save the water and oil senders out of your gas motor, and then buy pipe bushings to adapt them to the Cummins. The cummins threaded holes for those senders are larger than what the GM was.....so the need for the bushings.
I kept the ecm in my 97 swap, although I can't sit here and tell you what all it is used for now. I'm trying to keep my cruise control and abs....and although they have control moduals of their own, I didn't know if they received inputs from the ecm.
The tachometer....I'm not sure of yet, I'm trying to keep the factory dash tach operative and am having some difficulties. I don't want to spend close to 300 bucks to buy an aftermarket setup so am trying some things, but I don't think the tach gets any kind of signal from the ecm.
