well see my speedo doesnt work after using the jeep tranny for some reason. both speed sensor were only two wires... but my stock speedo doesnt work so I was using a gps.. also a tach would be pretty cool I suppose but you have to my pedal pretty much to the floor at all times. itll be about 1/2 form the floor, and then that last half inch it really doesnt go much faster it jsut blows smoke.

Is your turbo working?
If you are blowing black smoke then the fuel is not burning.

Vette.
Well I guess as long as you stay below about 60 MPH indicated on your gauge then you should be OK.
Of course without a tach how do you know you aren't over taching it?

That smoke sounds like turbo problems to me also. I don't think that truck weighs much more then a 300SD and with the gearing it should be flying without trying. Take the elbow from the aircleaner to the turbo off and see if you can easily turn the turbo shaft by hand. If it doesn't turn real easy then you need to rebuild the turbo. The bushing and seal kits are easy to get and it doesn't take much to do the job. Well other then getting the thing off the engine.

I can hear my turbo spool, and when I first go the motor I had the turbo off and you could spin in very freely. Im assuming hte black smoke is due to having then injection pump turned up a quarter turn. Im starting to think that maybe the gears in the trans are very short.

Have you eliminated the possibility of air in the fuel system? Or maybe something may be binding.

i believe there's no air in the fuel system due to having the stock fuel pump constantly on. I don't see what could be binding. I guess this is what i get for using a motor and not rebuilding it.

If it has enough compression that it starts easily the motor probably isn't bad, they really are robust. You are going to find an airleak, problem with full throttle travel, or ip items that is not correctly installed, and the truck will be better.

What exactly did you turn up a quarter of a turn? Also are you sure that the previous owner of the engine had not been messing with the pump?

well I ran the boost line from the intake to the alda and the motor is abunch quicker now. I do have the alda adjusted all the way counter clockwise, would turning it clock wise make it any quicker? with 4.88 gearing it revs up pretty quick tho so I assuming the top speed may only be right around 50 due to axle gears and transmission gears.

I turned one of the screws inside of the injection pump that increases the fuel. I'm not sure if the motor was ever tampered with before becauseI bought the motor off a guywho bought the car to restore but it ended up having a rusted out frame.'

I also felt my turbo today and I had a slight bit of shaft play, Im not quite sure how this happend because the turbo was nice and snug when I first go it. This is a dumb question but why is it bad to plug the line off that goes from your turbo to your wastegate?
