Gearing for OM617 in my 95 S10
OK I have been driving my 95 s10 with the om617 in it with a 98 s10 5 speed from a 4.3 with
3.42 rear gear. The problem is that the take off is far from good ( might get me ran over)
I have a set of 4.10 gears that I am looking to install and a set of 3.73 not sure what would be the best. Not looking for a race car just not to get ran over.
What is your thoughts on this.

Are you able to currently utilize 5th gear? I'd think 4.10's also, but I'd first find out what the overdrive gear ratio is in your transmission and then calculate the tire height to determine the RPM's in 5th. Everything I've read says the OM617 cruises best around 2800-3000 rpm's and I'd shoot for that at 70 mph for my use.

I use 5th gear now but the truck will lug down under 50mph and need to drop down to 4th gear to build any speed.I think I am just going to install the 410's and see what it will do.
I will have to see what to do about my speedometer, but 1 thing at a time.
I still would like to look at bumping up the timing a little to see if it would help on the bottom end power.
