I still don't get any black smoke, but I have a super low 1st gear so it launches fast. 28 may be too much, I have mine at 26-27, its kind of hard to be exact, I initially had it @ 30 before I got the whole drip method down, it ran but sounded like a cummins, so I backed it off as far as the slots would allow, I need to pull the pump again and move it a couple teeth so I can figure if it is actually in the sweet spot, just need some time to play. It will be great if a few more of us do some R&D so we can get it perfect.

Thanks FTE for your help
I think I will go with the 410s and set the timing a 26 and see how that does.

What kind of mileage do you get with your truck? I'm in process of putting a Kubota in a 96 S-10 to see what kind of mileage I can get out of it. Do you have any pics of your adapter plates for the transmission?
Thanks Mike

I can tell you that 5.38's and 29's are not a good combo for the highway. Might be good for a farm truck though.

I am getting around 31 mpg in town,I think I can get better in time.
I bought my adapter plate from. Mercedes diesel info
but I mod it to work with a 5 speed.

That's not bad mpg, do you have plenty of power? I'm somewhat concerned the Kubota is going to be a bit under powered but it should get very good mpg. I looked at the adapter plate link, that's nice, I'm building one similar out of 3/4 aluminum.

As far as power it will do not a race truck.
It is close to the power as a 2.2 s10 little less on take off.
I am running 373 gears and that helped a bunch.

That's reasonable power; I will be satisfied if I can get comparable power out of the Kubota. My truck also has a 3.73 rear gear and the final drive in the transmission is a .83, by my calculations those numbers should put me in a pretty fair power band and rpm at interstate speeds. My goal is fuel mileage not a necessarily power, but it has to be drivable.
