so I have my project truck just have a couple questions. I would like to do some modifications while I get all my parts in order and sell my dodge. I want to know how much firewall modification there is to be done, and if I can go ahead and sound deadened the interior planning on doing a spray in bed liner inside to help keep the noise down. the quieter the better. just some simple things I can do while I have time. thanks for the help.

If it's a 1995 F-series Ford truck, you shouldn't have to modify the firewall at all unless you really want to for some reason or another. I didn't modify my firewall at all on my 1993 F-250 when I dropped the Cummins in, and I can still easily get the back valve cover off. Granted, I notched the crossmember to sink the motor down a little, and I also used thin electric fans opposed to the mechanical, so that gained me room to move the motor forward enough to keep it out of the firewall. I guess it all depends on how you plan on mounting the motor.... Anyway, that's my $0.02...

I plan on towing a lot with this and would rather have a mechanical fan.

I took a shop hammer to mine for about 15-20 mins. Beat all across the top part of the firewall right above where the #6 valvecover would be. Also just a tad bit where the downpipe runs through. With a mechanical fan, I was still able to change all the valvesprings and head bolts leaving the engine in place. Mind you it was a pain gettin to the last two springs, but possible if you have the ingenuity.

thanks. I know a very talented mechanic that does things I would never be able to accomplish in tight places. so I think what your telling me is I can do what I want in the cab and I will be ok.
