Default Mercedes in 95 S10 will not shift gears

I have put a Mercedes 5 cyl turbo diesel in a 95 S10 with the S10 auto trans.
The problem is that the trans will not shift and i am not sure what controls the shifting.
Any one have any clues?
Vette

If the trans your using is the stock 95, then it is electriconically controled. You need a stand alone controller or a 700r4 that only requires 12v to lock up the converter, thats the trans I used behind my swap. I think 92 was the last year they used the 700r4 in the s10.

I am going to just put a 5 speed out of a 98 s10 in it then I will not have to worry
about it I will control the shifting.

I like my 700r4 as far as auto trannys go, it would be a bolt in swap, no more fabbing. Is yours 4x4?

No it is 2 wheel but this thing is sick on take off so the 5 speed should help with that.

What gears and tire size do you have? You may have to do a gear swap to get the motor in it's correct power band. I have 410's with 30in tires. Don't forget to make sure the boost line is hooked to the ALDA on top of the IP.

There is a hose barb on the back of the intake manifold, first take it off and make sure it isn't clogged up with soot. It is the boost signal for the ALDA. It is the flat mushroom looking thing on top of the injection pump towards the rear. Hook the line from the intake to the ALDA, this gives the motor more fuel when boost kicks in. It is adjustable, but be careful because they break easly. The plastic valve on the IP behind the ALDA is for the Benz trans, take that off, the shut down valve is directly below the plastic one, it takes a vacuum signal to shut down.
