Default 92 7.3 idi to cummins 96 12v

I'm thinking about swapping for my buddies 12v so I can beat the rich kids being ***holes around by me. question is besides having the cummins engine and tranny what is all needed? I'd like to know all the details before I just go for it.. My step dad used to be a mechanic so should have all tools and enough knowledge to get it done but still needed details. Thanks a lot guys for all the help!!!

you will need about 10k to do it right. IF you are doing an auto use a 47rh if you are using a 5 speed do a nv4500, and if you want a 6 speed nv5600.

Lot's of threads on here about them, everyone does it a little different, all depends on what u want. I did mine for about 4k, that's buying both trucks and selling uneeded parts. I would't say you have to spend 10k to do it right, depends on adapter plate, tranny, clutch, etc. A good start is to get a install manual from fordcummins for $25, it helped me quite a bit, give a basic outline on what to expect. Good luck

Sorry. I was saying 10k for
2k for motor,
2k for trans,
600 tcase,
could be done for 4. If you just do all stock and even cheaper if you get 2 trucks and just move drive train from one truck to the other. my truck is getting 10k into the motor, trans, tcase. Then 10k into truck. with hopes to last 200k.

orangeracer thanks, that's the kit I was looking at but do I need more then just the "engine kit"? Such as what about hooking all the wires up? I tried contracting them straight put but no response...

well a 12v only needs a few wires to run. so to get it running will be easy. To get all the gauges, water lines. may be tricky.

3 wires the fuel shutoff solenoid. Thats pretty much it on the 12v

And of course alternator, starter, and gauges. Buy the manual from FordCummins, it will help you get some stuff figured out. Its not step by step or anything like that, buts its an excellent overview. Try calling them again, I never had a problem getting ahold of them.
