I think it would work for alot of people who have clearance issues without losing oil capacity.

Wow that must of been fun TIG torching that together. How did you manage to get it clean enough? Nice job

I prepared with degreaser, we have a good fabrication shop near us who does the TIG welding. They actually said it went together well, we used 1/8" aluminum which is very similar in thickness where pan is cut out. We have just purchased 2 extra OM617 pans as "cores" to have fabricated ahead of time for our website. I hope to put engine back in again this weekend and will be able to post more pics its going to add a lot of clearance as we already had a test pan mocked up in engine bay.

After chewing on this awhile, I'm not seeing where the dipstick, turbo oil drain tube, and air filter oil drain tube now enter the oil pan?

And for you aluminum welders out there, is tig welding required for something like this or could aluminum wire in a mig welder accomplish the same?

Kinda, welding aluminum with a a wire welder requires a different gas and a pull feed. It is more difficult to achieve a good weld imo.

The dipstick did not move its in the same hole. For turbo I have a 1/2" Male NPT fitting directly inline with original turbo drain. I plan on piping down from that oring joint below the turbo. The shop i go to would not even consider MIG welding this together, they only would quote TIG welding.

What are you doing for the oil drain off of the air filter housing that's next to the turbo oil drain tube?

I can visualize the conflicts avoided by narrowing the oil pan on the driver's side and especially on the front, but what was in conflict on the passenger's side? Was is just easiser to square it up?

Did you consider modifying the oil pump pickup to push it toward the rear of the engine to allow more of the front of the oil pan to be flattened out?

I'm sure the pictures of it sitting in the wrangler will answer most of the questions.

we will run a tee off the 1/2 fitting to accept both or not drain the air filter since we can not fit stock MB air cleaner in Jeep YJ. It was definately easier to square up and i thought it would be more useful for guys with older stuff with differential on passenger side. We really want to move pickup back sometime but did not really have time to at this point. I really think it could be moved back with more work and time. I got it bolted up this weekend but not installed in Jeep. Should get it in one night this week for pictures.
