Dead horse? '94 12v into a 2000 silverado
I dug through some older posts here, but still felt the need to post a new thread/ introduction..
So, my daily driver is a 2000 4x4 silverado with a 5.3/auto. I've always had a thing for diesels, and the ones I can afford are mostly junk.. (Had a '98 GMC with a 6.5 with a cracked block)
I decided if I can't afford something new and shiney, i'd build something instead.. So a few months back I picked up a '94 12v 2wd ram with high miles for cheap.
What I would like to do is ideally swap the 12v into my silverado, with 3/4 or 1 ton axles and a nv 45 or 5600. In hindsight, it would have been smarter to buy a donor truck that had these options. From a brief search it looks like it may be hard/expensive to collect these parts individually. The donor has a slipping 47rh in it, and I also have a 4l80e and TCU (also 2wd) if it would be better to go auto with a divorced t-case..
Are there any other good sources for the 4wd parts other than craigslist etc? I'm a pretty decent fabricator with a good assortment of tools at my disposal. I'm a diesel mechanic by trade and have done a number of cross breed swaps before, but nothing like this. Hoping I'm not getting in over my head!
CLIFFSNOTES is a 2000 silverado 1500 a decent candidate for a 12v swap??
