Default Cummins swap into 6.5

I have a 6.5 that unfortunately may be crapping out on me. so im considering a 4bt or 6bt. prefereably the 6bt but the 4 may do. If anyone has a good list of things needed and what needs to be done that would help alot. its kinda gotta be on the cheap in my garage. no welder. Anything helps thanx

lots of info out there. do a search on here and other forums. im in the process of doing one now. if there is something you cant find pm me and i will try and answer your questions. it could be done fairly cheap if you find the right donor truck. good luck!!

autoworldmt makes a straight forward set of brackets with instructions from what I've heard.

Go with the 6bt. The 4bt will be hard to find and cost way more than the 6bt. Also find a whole donor truck if you can. All the little parts will add up to big bucks!

call autoworld in montana they can get you the motor mounts.May have to get a body hammer and massage the firewall a little but ken up there told me i can use the same slave and master for the nv4500.they have a dodge input shaft for the 4500 with a milled retainer to put in your chevy 4500.move your trans mount do some wiring you should be pretty much good from there except for some small details.if you use the dodge input shaft use the bellhousing.I'm working on a 94 right now.if you have a tach use the gm alt, that's where the tach signal comes from.If you have an automatic I'm no help except maybe rebuild a 4L80.Good Luck. Keep us posted

you can just bolt the dodge retainer into the front of a chevy trans and use the dodge bellhousing and input shaft. It has to be a late chev 4500 with the non 6:1ish 1st

im not sure you have the right pickup for your swap. the cummins is heavy and im not sure a half ton frame will hold up. im sure with a few modifications it would work. also the auto wont hold up to the torque of the cummins. im not trying to rain on your parade but just a few thoughts.

It is the Heavy Duty 1500 with the 6.5 Diesel. I know the Cummins 6bt still weighs more but not that much more. Maybe 100-200 lbs. Also it should have the 4L80E being behind the 6.5! If it were me I would do it.
