12v p pumped cummins into 1969 charger
okay guys i have had this idea floating around in my head for about a year after i wrecked my auto 96 dually and had the engine floating around. other than the obvious weight issues and suspension issues the 12v will fit all except ground clearance. does anyone know someone who can make a custom pan and pickup or has made a low profile pan and pickup. the other problem i have been unable to solve is getting a tach to work. anyone know where i can get a kit to install an aftermarket tach and how much trouble is it. i would like to put all autometer guages in the car but may not be able to. the car is in pieces right now being sandblasted and prepped for paint (lots of sheetmetal work) so this wont become a reality for several months but i wanted to know if it was possible. i am a mechanic by profession and have some fabricating skills but i want to know to go this route or just build the daylights out of the 440 i have sitting in pieces?

It'd be worth ALOT more with the 440... Even though the cars handle like bricks as it is, imagine a 12v infront yikes. IMHO I wouldn't "wreck" a 69 charger with putting anything other than a high horse mopar v8. What model is it? Rt se bare bone? What was the original motor? Even if it's not numbers matching they still pull a big dollar when done right. Dad and I have restored more than a few show winning mopars.

its a base 383 auto car that is almost a basket case as it is. and the handling would be controlled by an independent coil spring front end with adjustable coilovers all around. and everything as far as bolting the engine in could be easily reversed to house the 440. the 440 would have to have machine work done and built versus the cummins ready to run. i know these cars are high dollar cars as are all mopars but warner brothers offered to buy the car for four times what i paid for it and i couldnt sell so i dont plan on getting rid of the car.

Screw it, put it in there. If its you car then the only person you need to please is yourself. Of course I say this because I am putting a 5.9 in my 67 Chrysler Imperial in place of a 440. Just ran it for the first time tonight too. Everyone thinks I am crazy but thats just fine with me. I had to cut the stock 5.9 pan up to clear the crossmember and the drag link but it wasn't too bad to do. The pan sits pretty low so there might be more adjusting in the future. I was thinking about trying to build a dry sump setup to solve the clearance problem but we will see. As far as a tach you might be able to tap into the crank sensor to get a signal but that is just a guess on my part. Good luck and hope to see more mopar cars smoking up the streets.
