Default manual shutoff system?

what is a good manual shutoff system for a diesel?

I was introduced to a happy jeep owner last night, who did a mercedes om617 install about a year ago.

We talked about everything from the importance of running the right fuel hose to that vacuum system that is responsible for shutting down the motor.

I was curious if anyone was running a completely manual operation?

thought I would share the video of the happy jeep owner...yes, apparently they do exist :p

To operate the vac shutoff on the benz motor you use the electric overboost solonoid off the donor car and hook it up to the vac shutdown and wire it to 12v off the ig switch. To do a manual shutdown, just hook a cable to the stop lever on the side of the valve cover. Don't know why you would want to do that as the solonoid works fine.

picked up a vacuum solenoid from the yard yesterday.
tested them with my vacuum pump:
provide power and they allow vacuum flow...wondering if I can adapt this for my mercedes shutoff.

Now I'm looking for a device that will provide power for a short period once I've turned OFF the truck.
Thinking anything from 10sec to a minute would be fine.

thanks,
manny

You got me on this one I can't think of any thing that you could do that with. Some of the 80's vintage cars had a set up to keep the head lights on for a couple of mins after shut down but I don't know exactly how they did it.

finally found one at the yard

electrical connections:
brown is positive +
black is negative -

Vacuum port connections:
Outside port connects the Injection Pump vacuum diaphragm.
Center port connects to a vacuum source.

Is this correct?

tested above with my hand vacuum pump...seems to be working correctly

thanks,
manny

---AutoMerged DoublePost---

found out that this is actually an over-boost protection device...

may try it, as it really comes down to how much vacuum the fuel-shutoff diaphragm actually requires.

There are small black vac solenoids that go to the trans. They open when electric is shut off. That would be your best bet. I found several on the donor car my engine came from and I tested them at home. With power, they are closed and no power they are open. I will be wiring one to my ignition so it goes off with the key.
