Default good ole truck

first post so, hey yall. like ur site

i have a 97 gmc sierra 1500 4x4 that has 190k miles on it. trucks fixing to get new leather and carpet, fresh bushings and joints, and a 383 built for towing and hopefully last me another 12 years. but i sure would like to have a deisel. would be on a real tight budget, been saving for the project for a while. and i want a reliable, issues free truck when im done. any suggestions?

Cummins 4bt will out last that truck,be way more reliable, give good power(way more torque than a 383),and good economy. It's not cheap, but once it's done there are way less things that can go wrong with a diesel.A tune up is oil and filter changes every 15,000 miles, depending on oil brand. The conversion will require some fabrication work, mainly engine and trans mounts. You may need a lift that will drop the front differential down to clear the oil pan, or possibly modify the oil pan to clear the front diff.

thanks guys. sounds encouraging. i have done motor mounts 3 or 2 times. would i get into a lot of issues with the cooling system? and the big question... i have $3700 figured for the engine build and swap. does that even put me close for a diesel swap?

It'll buy an engine and maybe some spares.Gotta search for the deals to keep costs down and that usually takes time.If you want it down asap, you will need to double that.
