The larger bearing journals will last alot longer on the inline engines then a similar sized V8, there are more of them and they are larger. The cummins engines are also alot easier to work on and most upgrades can be done in a single day in your driveway. That for me would be a huge point for my decision. Easy to put a larger turbo on, without pulling the cab or anything.

You really need to sit down and think about what you want to do with the truck. I have a 95 ford crew cab 4x4. I absolutely love the truck. right now it has a 460 gas guzzler. I am in the process of doin a cummins swap. The reasons for me are: 12v is so simple, you can fix almost anything on it with some wrenches and a couple of screw drivers. Parts are still very plentiful. I have seen a 12v with over 500k with only the accessories(alt. starter. water pump. ect.) needin to be replaced and they tow with it! Power is very easy to get outta these engines. You want BIG power? Get a p-pump! Super easy to bomb!
I am looking for a complete 94-97 dodge 4x4 with a manual trans to do a complete swap with. Yeah its gonna cost me alittle more in the beginning, but the end result will be that I have a truck that will do everything I need.
I am helping a buddy replace his power stroke with only 150k on it. Did he abuse it? No. He uses his 1 ton like a 1 ton. Tows, hauls and drives it. He checked in to rebuilding the stroke or swappin in a cummins and its about the same amount of money for him.
Remember that the stroker uses alot of electronics and that to me is its greatest weakness!

p-pumped 12v... much easier to make the power you are looking for... and what year 7.3 are you able to get for $750? that sounds awfully cheap!

The cost of PSD injectors alone is making me want to consider an engine swap.

I'd never had a Cummins until this year - a 90 D250 5spd with almost 400,000km. Incredible torque, no starting issues, extremely simple.

I can feel an engine swap in the future... and I already have a PSD.

Guess I'm the odd duck, I'd stick with the 7.3.

Yeah a 7.3 with decent injectors a chip and a new HPOP has decent power. Ive had two pstrokes one ran fine but NO power i think the Hpop was worn out. then another with new hpop and injectors all stock and it had a ton more power. cummins are very simple and i love them but 750 for a pstroke is a good deal.
