12 valve to replace 6.9 IDI
so i have an 85 F350 4x4 with a 6.9 IDI w/ 4 speed no o/d manual trans and the stock 4.10 gears. Its a dog. I can get a 12 valve out of an old ups truck with trans, intercooler, radiator for $1500. What would i expect to see in change of performance? the trans with it is a 2wd trans which i dont think it would matter because of the monster transfer case on mine. Will i need a new driveshaft made from trans to transfer case? Also what will this project involve?
thanks,
Erik

right now i'm hopin my cherry picker will lift that engine. i'm thinkin about puttin the trans in from the bottom but the engine is supposed to weigh in the neighborhood of 1100 i believe. i could be wrong. but i cant get my bumper off at the moment. apparently 25 years of new york has convinced the bolts not to move so my cherry picker will probably be at its longest extension which reduces it to 1/2 ton i believe

Engine should be 1100-1200 pounds.
What year is the Cummins? First gen with the rotary VE pump I believe will run on 1 wire, and a second gen 12V with the inline P-7100 takes 3 to run. Both are desireable engines in my mind.
7.3 is a decent engine - but I dont think its got anywhere near the durability or longevity of a Cummins medium duty diesel engine. Transplanting either engine will be a big project and will involve custom fabrication and/or parts.
www.fordcummins.com sell parts and a how to guide for the conversion. also Destroked.com (which was already mentioned) has parts as well.
