Looks like an awesome swap dude! Definately something you dont see every day. I still want an old truck with a 2 stroke detroit

Dad had one in a Dodge Ram 1st Gen wich was originally a 360 powered..

he had it mated to a Getrag off a 1gen Cummins and i beleive it was a direct fit...

Dad also told me that this Perkins was a british version of the Cummins (not sure if that makes any sense) but they look very similar (almost exactly the same)

so u hadnt done any to the 46 chev? i pulled my engine and trans out of the 46.i bought a 1985 mercedes 300sd turbo and am in prosses of removing the diesel now.looks like a go.i will try to use the mercedes automatic.i dont know how it will fair against the old 46 2 ton rear end .say what is a brownie?[between tranny and rear end?

We started the rebuild on my 4 cylinder Perkins here the other day. Got the tractor stripped and the block and head go to the machine shop tomorrow. What started out as replacing the clutch has turned into a complete rebuild of the entire tractor.

I'm pretty sure that all of the block is the same between the 4 and 6 cylinder other then the 6 cylinder just being a little longer, so if you need any pics or info just let me know.

Nope. Not yet. I'm chomping at the bit to get the project going though! Still waiting on the legal crap concerning the title. Think I'm gonna go to the old guy's farm and try to get it running. At least well enough to drive it up on the trailer and get it home. Figure I don't need the title to work on it. Though I don't want to put several hundred hours into it and have the old guy die (he's 91) before getting this title B.S. taken care of.

I also need to figure out how to pull the Perkins out of the old Combine, as it's about 8 feet off the ground. I thought about borrowing the neighbor's backhoe but I don't know if it'll lift the reported 1250 pounds of Perkins with the hoe fully extended. I'm thinking that may be more important than getting the truck home at this point as I need to figure out what transmissions I can use. It's hard to find info on this but it appears it all depends on the bellhousing configuation, with SAE-3 and SAE-4 most common.

here in ga. we dont need a title for units 1985 and back.you can get info off the combine and the perkins info and see which configureation they used.you should get it home!my 46 cranked up easy enough but carb was messed up.i bought a 12 volt ignition coil and a new condensor like for a 1960 chev 6 cyl. put them on and disconnected all electrics hooked up a 12 volt battery in place of the 6 ran a wire from coil to battery and it fires right up!keep me postedhere is phone # of guy who does conversions w perkins.4789563160

1/-that truck is a real thing of of beauty-it,s just perfect as is.[needs diesel]
2/-my bro works at the perkins engine plant in peterborough here in england.i considered perkins power for my current build,but the v8 i got settled on had way too much snot for my chosen trans.they only seem to keep info on the current lineup of wheezy,electronic engines,that i would never insult a real steel truck with.
3/-i did a bunch of research on the SAE # industrial motors deal-if you need i can send links.
4/- hope you get through all the legal BS- im sure the 90 year old guy will have some choice ideas about all the 'smart' lawyers and self serving politicians
5/- good luck with that build-rightous!

Well I got a call from the old man yesterday. He said the lawyer contacted him and said the paperwork has been filled out and submitted and should be sitting on the Judge's desk. Now it's just waiting for the pile of papers to bet big enough for "his honor" to start stamping his name on them.

Well, here's the latest. Still no title! But i don't care. I got the old 216 running so the truck is at least self-mobile, got all the crap cleaned off the bed, scrounged up all the extra parts that go along with it and have rounded-up a trailer to haul it home.

I'll be heading down to N.C. the end of this month to pick up a Transmission. Found a IH T36 5-speed manual that came from a Canadian-built International Harvester Load Star with a factory 6.354 Perkins. Unfortunately, it's not an over-drive trans, but it has everything to mate it up to the 6.354 Perkins the old 510 combine is donating. The adapter plate, flywheel, clutch assembly(hydraulic), cross-members and mounts. The price is right and it keeps me from having to source out all the separate parts to get it to work. Plus, road trips are cool, even at 4 dollars a gallon.
