Nice rig! I too love that year, body style of ford. In fact a 78 F250 crew cab on craigs list is calling my name! Wow, the scale weight is the same as my 94 f150 s/c with a 300 6cyl, I just got back from the scrapper(hauled away the Benz body) and that is what mine weighs. I figured yours would be heavier. I wondered about the extra weight on that stock ft axle, but then again we used to hang snow plows on the front of our F150's all the time with no failures when I lived in Colorado. That 9in can handle ANYTHING you can throw at it! Your bio sounds alot like mine, but my wife is going to have to get a better job before I can "semi-retire"!

Oh yeah, a '78 F250 pickup would be an awesome project! You could use a divorced NP205 on a rig that long and therefore, ANY motor-transmission combination would be available to you. My Bronco is too short for the divorced unit, it's the only thing I don't like about it! The T-case HAS to bolt up to the trans.

Ah, I'm only semi-retired from certain things, like mechanical stuff, I've torn my back up so much over the years, it's getting difficult to do stuff as much, and doing it for a living is out of the question, unfortunately! Now I usually just drive the trucks, and do mechanical stuff as a hobby.

sweet truck,broncs look so good lifted,i wondered if you got any idea of how much the 6bt motor weighs?

 

Thanks! I love the Broncs lifted also. The Cummins 6BT weighs in the neighborhood of 975-1000 lbs.

 

American Thunder, how is your D44 axle holding up to the weight of the cummins?

 

So far so good, but I rarely beat it up. If I was doing serious pulling with it, I'm sure the 44 would have issues.. My biggest complaint with the reverse cut gears in the 44 is the non-availability of gears such as 3.00s.. The 3.50s that are in it are alright, but the motor surely doesn't need any help moving this truck, and I could get better fuel mileage with 3.00s. Oh well.
