Default 97 Ram 2500 360 to 5.9 help

Hey I have a 2500 long wheel base regular cab Ram with the wonderful gashogging 360 in it and the nv4500 5 speed. I know there are probably a lot of write ups on the 12 valve swap but I can't seem to find one that will even tell me what I need or how much I'm really getting in to. Any help would be very greatly appreciated!!!

I'm guessing but besides motor, radiator and bellhousing, probably wireing harness and dash to do it right, but if you wanted to delete the water in fuel light and hook the grid heaters and cutoff selenoids to toggle switched you could probably do it without wireing harness and dash. Oh yea and a second battery and tray, also not sure what you have for diffs but if they're not Dana 60, and 70's you're gonna want them too. A wrecked or rusted donor truck would be Ideal. Good luck, you will like the end result

I an doing the same swap in a 96. So far have the 12v in place. The engine mounts on the 12v go right in the frame of the 360. The bell housings are different from the 360 to the 12v. If your going the 5 speed route make sure you get the clutch fork too along with the flywheel and clutch.( good time to upgrade the clutch- its waaay to easy to turn up the 12v). not sure about the auto but from what i gather the gasser auto is too wimpy for the 12v. I'll be starting the fuel and wiring soon I'll keep ya posted on how it goes.

you're gonna need to change the input shaft & bearing & retainer plate in the trans. The gas job will not work with the cummins clutch. In order to do the job right try to come up with factory dodge books to do the wiring,I'v done this swap in my 2000' ram. Also you will need another battery box, aftercooler w/plumbing,new radiator w/fanshroud,clutch, pressure plate, bell w/throwout fork&bearing. The driveshafts will work but I think I had 1" takin out of my front. I can't remember because I changed mine over from an auto to standard. Don't try to use a chilton manual to do this. They just give you enuogh info to get you in trouble. This is the best way to turn a valuable truck into a piece of junk in a hurry,so do you're homework first.

The best and cheapest way to do this swap is sell your truck and buy what you want. If you had a v10 truck it would be much eaiser. The 360 truck unless it has the snow plow package has a 44 front, 70 rear and most likely 4.10 gears. The only way to do this right is to buy a cummins truck and use everything except the frame and sheetmetal. l thought about doing it to a v10 which is a diesel truck without the motor and its too much work. My truck brought 2500 the cheapest donor I found was 3500 and ibought a 2001 quad cab 24v ho 6speed for 8500 no way i could justify the work and im sure 1000-1500 in other stuff. Think about fuel lines and tank and complete dash. Im sure people have done it and are happy but if they make what you want just buy it if they dont then build it.
