I'm new to the forum and have a 2004 Excursion with a 5.4 and I was wondering if I could swap in a 6.0 diesel? I'm open to other diesel swaps not just the 6.0. I do need it to pass emissions in Tn. To pass emissions do I have to swap in an engine that was available in my particular vehicle or can I swap in any diesel from a 2004 or newer truck? I was wondering if anyone has had any experience with a swap like this. Any advice would be welcome. Thank you.

 

I can't help you much on passing emissions, but if you do the 6.0, if you plan on doing any mods to it, I suggest putting ARP headstuds on it and the aftermarket EGR cooler. Before putting it in would be the easiest time to do it plus you won't have to worry about blowing head gaskets later. I think for it to pass emissions it would have to be 04 or newer. I remember hearing that somewhere, don't remember where(don't quote me on it) and I don't live somewhere with emission testing so I really don't know much about it. I personally would swap in an 03-04 common rail Cummins. It can be tricky with wiring but check out Destroked and Ford Cummins for their kits.
