Default 1991 Cummins

i want to put a a 1991 12v cummins motor in a 1976 gmc 1ton i want to use a turbo 400 trans can i do this i have the adaptor plate and flywheel and starter do i need to change any thing in the trans thanks for the help

Welcome Bob.... there was a post on here about a guy that put a Cummins in a 1 ton Chevy..... until then post up in the intro section and tell us a little about yourself.....

Just make sure that the turbo 400 come from behind a diesel. If it came for behind a gas jod the diesel engine will tear it up in no time.

i think you can rebuild a 400 turbo from any GM to work on a diesel.

i think on a gassers the 400 won't shift correctly for a diesel either

I would build the trans and have a custom convertor built for it.

On a side note I had a 81 crewcab with a 89 Cummins/727 auto. I miss that truck.

3.07, it was the Dana 70 out of the same truck the engine and trans came out of.
