Default convert a Getrag 2wd to 4wd

I'm looking at transmission possibilities for my Ford/Cummins swap, and came across a really good deal on a Getrag 2wd tranny. I hear good and bad on these trannys, but know guys that use theirs hard in towing, with no problems. What is involved in changing this to 4wd? I have a divorced t-case I could use, but prefer to have a transfer mounted on the tranny, and really want to keep it on the drivers side. Are parts easy to find for the conversion? What transfer case can be used? Can I use my BW 1435 that is on my T18.

Also,, can I use my Ford clutch master cylinder with the dodge slave cyliinder?

I have my gas engine out, the frame steamed, and plan on building motor mounts within the week. I hope to make a decision on the transmission soon. Itchin' to get this thing together.

I appreciate everyone's help.

from what i understand, you have to almost completely disammble the whole transmission to change the output shaft, and you would need a new tailshaft housing as well. as for a bw transfer case, what spline is it? i know the getrag uses a 29 spline output shaft. if your running a dodge transmission, and want a driver side drop, id look into the dodge 241 transfer case.

as for the slave and master, look at the cylinder tubes on both of them, if they are the same size, or the master is a little bit larger, youll be ok. if the master is smaller than the slave, it wont work, but pm me and ill give you a part number that will be a direct bolt up with a smaller housing thatll work with the smaller master. i had to go through that whole thing on my chevy project

I haven't torn my tranny/t-case down yet to see, but from what I'm reading, it sounds like maybe a 31 spliine. I would definately want a drivers side drop.

Do you know of a supplier of Getrag parts for the swap? Been checking ebay,, craigslist, etc.

Using a divorced case is always an option.

thanks,,

But the 241 is a 29 spline, and will mate to the Getrag? Are the parts and adapters easy to find for this?

i couldnt tell you on that i used the stock dodge 29 spline 205 in my swap. i dont think i would ever trust an np241 behind the power of a cummins. ive ripped those apart with tbi and vortec 350 chevy gassers.

I know I can get the parts to change it to a PASSENGERS drop, but can it be changed to a drivers side drop? Maybe a adapter for the passengers drop as it was from the factory, and use a "Ford" 205? My divorced t-case is starting to look really good right now.

I took at look at the AA website, but they don't list anything for the Getrag. The closest is the NV4500 with 29 spline. I might give them a call.

Going to go ahead and get it all bolted in and wired up. Plenty to do now.

thanks,,,,
