easiest way to do it is to buy an ispro, autometer, tinytach, or run the chev alt on the cummins.

or get the cummins alt rewound for a tach signal, alternator shops can do it. get it internally regulated while your at it.

How is the tach run off of the Chevy alternator?? My 1984 F350 had a Delco single wire alternator.

I don't know how it works, but that is how the stock 6.5 alt works, and several people have had the cummins alt set up by an alt shop for a tach signal.

The stock sensor on the cummins has 3-wires, power (which the PCM supplies either 5 or 8-volts,I can't remember but I know it's not 12) ground, and signal wire. As for the chevy I'm not sure.

Mag pick up triggered off the four crank bolts.
GM 4 pin HEI module NAPA TP45SB
W= positive lead from the pickup
G= negative lead from the pickup
C= tach lead
B= positive, ign on

What if you don't want to buy a Chev alt and fab a bracket. With the alt hook up don't you have to do some kind of adjusting to get it to read the right rpm's?
