Glad to hear the fuel economy picked up. The Gorge is a bugger to travel. Going to Pasco I logged 40.2 with the tail wind...back to Vancouver was 26.7. This was in my "mid life Chrysler". I planted the LD in the Cherokee for a trial fit. Had to remove. The 720 5-sp was "clocked" wrong. Off by about 15 degrees. So..back to the original 5-sp with a divorced transfer case. Did find a few new replacemant parts that are not available..received them from Japan. Anyway...I am way behind the 8-ball here due to weather. Our snow has finally melted, however I now have frogs living next to my shop. Have been taking photos..need to figure out how to post. Has anyone seen/heard from the fellow doing the Comanche LD conversion?

Hi Ken, glad to hear you are back on track. Maybe sometime when I get some free time I'll stop by. By the way, does that Nissan have any advance for the IP?

fte, motor mount details: i got a pair of the dodge mounts, little ice cream sandwich shaped things with offset studs. did you keep the mercedes forged "arms" from block to motor mount? I could see drilling out the holes that recieved the mercedes allen from below to accept the new studs, but Im open to other options.
oil cooler: did you keep the mercedes oil cooler? behind bumper with extended oil cooler line? modify bumper for airflow? thanx ---AutoMerged DoublePost--- ok, found your motor mount pics, so scratch that question. picture explains all. |
Yea, the reason I didn't use the Benz arms is they were too wide and low. I used the Benz oil cooler, just cut the crimp coller off and replaced the flex lines and used "killer" clamps(no leaks so far)and did some modds to the front crossmember for air flow.

thanx fte, finally read through all of this build thread and found the oil cooler pics. my cross member allready has 2 large oval holes towards the passenger side, don't know if i need to open it up more or not. nice work on your motor mounts...inspiring.

Wow, sweet swap FTE. I just joined this forum. A wealth of knowledge here. I have om617 just sitting. has only 85,000 miles and want to drop it into a tahoe 4x4. FTE, do you have a template for that adapter plate? or would like to sell a copy of it?

drivetrain length
FTE -
Nice work. Did you sell the jeep? I saw one that looked like yours on CL last week. I was going to call, but it was gone in the morning... Anyway, what was the length of the drivetrain from the front of the fan to the end of T case? Do you think it would be too long for a wrangler? I don't know of anyone else trying to use the 700r4 in a wrangler. It looks long in your picture. great work. |
Yep, sold it and I don't have a measurement but it wasn't much different than the stock unit.
