Thumbs up Class 8 Dodge Ram..Heheheh

Yup, bored with the truck so....changing a few things. I have most all the parts but need to source a few more. Here's the lowdown....

Got a Pete 379 class 8 road tractor minus the engine and sleeper. Gonna put my 6BTA in it, as well as the Ram body and swapping on a dually bed. Going to keep all the air...brakes, suspension etc...as well as the 9spd Roadranger, but removing one of the screws, shortening the frame and moving the remaining screw forward for the right wheelbase. Gonna swap off the 11R24.5's for some lower profile rubber to put around the Alcoas. Taking off the existing vac pump and power steering pump and installing the air compressor and power steering pump in place of it from the tractor. The only numbers need to crunch is finding the right spec on a replacement SAE housing, as well as a flywheel/clutch combo to mount up to the Roadranger. I haven't shaken all the bushes yet to find this detail out, so I figured I'd see if anyone here has any ideas for a place to start.

I might fight the urge to put my DTT into the wife's 3500 QC for pulling the 5'er, and sell it to help finance the needed drivetrain parts. I guess it depends on what it would be worth to someone.

Anyway, post up some idear's. And Kevin.....your'e gonna love this one when it's done bro.

Chris

I though about an 8.3...but you know me...get it done with what I got and see what ya end up with. Besides, if I don't find something big and heavy to put this engine in, I'll just find something light and little. I think my personality would make for some real trouble in a small light recipient. I use the same theory as with bikes. Get a rocket to go fast, or by a 'glide to look and sound good without having to be doing 180 right? Besides, I have this thi ng with Big Trucks.

Good to have some time to spend on the board Kev. I think dispatch is gonna leave me alone this weekend...I'm dissapearing to IL for a reunion for the next 4 days.

It's not as bad as it used to be. Until recently there was only me and one other driver to drive the Heavies. We hired a couple more guys to drive light and medium duty, but carry a class A to back us up for time off etc. I still work 80-100 hrs a week, but I don't run as hard as I used to, plus we're fixing to go off-peak season. Time to fix up the trucks for next spring and do it all over again. I have kinda swung into the maintenance part of things around here too which keeps me closer to home, as well as gives me access to a shop for insane projects like this. This tractor I'm cannibalizing was a tow away from a truck stop....so I got nothing in it dollar wise. Just my style.
