1992 F250 4x4 Cummins Conversion
#21
Heh heh, the alternator. It's actually a TWO wire alternator as I found out the hard way. It's the Cummins alternator with a two wire conversion part, got it from the local napa, Transpo PN IN8315. Cost just under $35 after tax. After fighting it forever not getting a charge, including a new alternator, I had a shop put a conversion part on my alternator for me. Still no charge. Finally talked to a friend that night that has the same setup on his 69 F250 Fummins and come to find out you have to run a 12v hot w/key on to one of the field posts on the back of the alternator. Which is what makes it a two wire and not a one wire, which has a "rpm exciter" that uses alternator rpms to determine when to start making a charge, as apposed to this style that starts charging as soon as you start the truck. As long as you have the key-on-hot-wire that is...... It's very simple and easy to do and works very well so far.

I'm back! I havent had internet for over two months now and haven't been able to get on the forum, it's sucked!!
timdale> The alternator conversion part is the voltage regulator. It runs at like 13.2 volts once you start the truck. And glad I could help! I know I got all kinds of answers and ideas just from cruising forums.
Got some new pics of the truck, had to cut the corners off the front fenders to clear the 37s all the way. Took off the canopy after Memoral Weekend camping and built a headache rack for it. Then added a chainsaw rack to it a few weeks later.
Welded on and painted

Thanks! I'm loving them so far, haven't got alot of off road time on them yet, but they did awesome busting through the leftover, crusty snow and mud over memorial weekend. I got them used off the local Craigslist for $500 for all 5. I've been keeping my eyes open for a set of cummins badges off a 03+ Dodge, haven't found any used yet. Gonna put them under the F250 badge when I do.
