Default 6 speed to an Allison.

I currently have a 6 speed in my 03 dmax, its doing fine just want somehing different. I am wanting to covert to an auto(stage 4). I do have a donor truck already. Does anyone have any idea what I all I will need for the change over?

I was unaware that Chevy even offered a 6 speed tranny! But regarding the swap. Allison is made to go in the Chevy and the Chevy body is made for the Allison. Im pretty sure you could fit one no problem. Also pretty sure you wont need an adaptor plate or anything. The electrical side will need some changes to accept the automatic tranny and you may need a different length rear drive shaft. The T-case is the same on both I believe so you are pretty much set I think with just the tranny and wiring. The only I would be concerned about is the rear drive shaft and even then you may be in the clear. Someone else will more than likely be able to answer that question.

They are rare but they did have 6 speeds in the dmax. The donor is the exact same as mine except a 02, everything else the same, but i will use my transfer since the other is bad. Just wondering what all ill need off of the wiring harness, and if it wiould match up with no prob.

Why do you want an auto behind the d-max? My buddies 07 2500 classic fried the 6 speed allison w/ just an tuner and exhaust.

you can do that to any stock auto with just a tuner on a dmax, they make some stoopid power.
