What's the difference in wheelbases between the trucks? Might be better off swapping the 3rd gen body on the 2nd gen chassis. Even if you had to move the rear axle forward you'd be in for a lot less work than making that 1/2 ton work.

Just something to think about if your gonna want to register it. Most states require when you do an engine swap that the engine being installed is the same model year or newer than the vehicle its going into, to keep people from bypassing emission laws.

here in ohio they do.when i did m conversion i took it for emission check and they checked opacity reading and my was 0.0 LOL i couldnt belive it but it had to be done.my jeep is 87 and engine is 85.they recomend that you use same year engine as vehicle or newer because of reading limits, but all they can realy check is how much smoke comes out of your exaust.i would say as long as you dont have freight train you should be fine

yah my 96 factory 6.5L 1500, that had all the emmissions stuff on it, but nothing was working, the check engine light was on and the turbo wasn't doing anything because the wastegate was flopping open. it went in for the drive test for emissions and it got a fast pass because it was so clean, and this truck has 380,000kms on it, and was puking black smoke when you stomped on throttle LOL

alot of people have done those kind of swaps. what they are refferring to as smog laws, i know alot of states wont let you put a diesel engine in a 1/2 ton truck. so you might have a problem with that 1500 dodge. and your still going to have to smog either of them sooner or later with the new diesel smog laws moving in
