Default 6.9L Ford Marinization?

Hi All, Newbie here.... thanks for havin' me. Does anyone know of the efficacy of converting a 1986, Ford, 6.9l truck diesel to use as a boat powerplant? Also, any info. as to where I could obtain an owners/service manual?.... it would be a great help.
Again, thanks and Merry Christmas!
Vincent

check ebay for a service manual, and as long as you don't push it hard it should be fine. probably be rather similar to a detroit 4-53 in power and rpm range.

thanks for the replies.. I was asking about the marinization for a friend that needs a repower for a small lobster boat. Ironically, "dealwithit", it would be replacing an old 4-53 that I had rebuilt for him years ago... since I, obviously, know little of the 6.9L I was curious.. as this '86 diesel only has 68k miles on it.. it starts immediately and purrs it is actually quieter than most 7.3 powerstrokes I hear. I am aware of horror stories trying to marinize Ford gas engines, i.e. 460cid, etc. but I was hoping this might be an option... like alot of folks, money is tight and I was going to give him the mill with a compatible reduction gear and help him with the conversion and installation. that should work perfectly then, and i bet it would get better milage too, and probably save about 3-400lbs too. thinking about it more and more im pretty sure it will be a pretty good canidate actually.

well the injection pump isnt designed to be at the same speed for hours on end so i would look at getting a marine one. peninsular diesel which is big into 6.2 and 6.5 diesels make marine engines and you can probably buy a pump from them. 6.2s and 6.9s are very similar and use the same injection pump
