Ok i Have a 01 Ram 1500 gas truck and I wanna put a diesel in it. What do I need to source up for parts and what needs to be done? I tried searching and there is no clear answers. Any help would be appreciatted

 

Are you still trying to figure out what engine you want to go with or are you trying to decide that too?

There are a LOT of websites that can help you such as 4bt swaps if you want to go with a cummins. they also cover many other small diesel engines like perkins, kubota, ect.

 

Ok I have gotten a 96 12 valve with auto tranny. Now what else do i need to get? I have the 98 wire harness and pcm. Is everything just going to plug and play or do i have to do anything else?

 

Well not much is going to be plug and play per say

You will have to splice every wire into the main truck harness to make gauges and other stuff to work.

You will need to fabricate just about everything else but if you want to go expensive you can find just about every part you need to drop that into your truck.

It will be a long road untill you are going to be finished...not to deminish your hopes you will just have to work on it a lot to get it just right.

 

i did the swap and it runs mint no problems with it. Everything is bolt in and plug and play with the 98 harness and ecm

 

what did you do to the suspension?

 

i put the springs from a 96 2500 diesel ram in.

 

You're going to have to swap the axles out, that dana 44 front is no where near being up to the task of supporting a cummins.

 

i swapped out the axles and put a dana 60 and 70 in the truck with 410 gears.
