Default 94 P30 6.5na to 5.9 CTD

Has this been done? I've searched and searched. Only been able to find 4bt in a P30 chassis. I've seen the freightliner(MT45?) 6bt van. I know that I'll need the Cummins to 4L80 adapter. And a high mount for the ac compressor. Should I use a 6bta and ditch the inter-cooler. The original radiator is about 4 ft. wide. Also are the tps's the same voltage between GM and Dodge? Dodge service manual states 1 volt at idle and 3.5 a wot. Thx SteveinAZ

No turbo. And everything else I own has a Cummins in it. And I have an extra 92 Cummins and a garage full of extra parts.

Yes...intercooler for sure. If space is an issue, you could run a water-to-air intercooler and put it anywhere you have space for it. The good thing about running the water-to-air cooler is that it does not require airflow to cool...your coolant is actually what cools your charged air.

You are also going to need a standalone computer for the transmission if you don't already have one. I know for sure with the pick-up trucks In '94 with the electronic controlled 6.5's the computer controlled both the engine and transmission functions. If your P30 with the 6.5, had a mechanical Injection Pump, you already have the computer you need...if the IP has the infamous PMD (or FSD as some called it) on the side of it, you will have to find a different computer. You can find the standalone computer for the 4L80E in any of the pre-'94 Chevy Pick-Up trucks that had the 6.5 in it.

Good luck with the swap. I just did a 6.5 to a 12-valve cummins swap and I ABSOLUTELY LOVE IT!!!! If you have any questions I may be able to help you with, email me at james.e.taulbee @ hot mail

You can make ANYTHING fit with enough enginuity. The P30 has such a short hood, but a 6BT CAN be made to work by extending the doghouse back into the cab a little bit...or a lot!! LOL. I say GO FOR IT!!! You already have the truck...and the motor...so the most expensive part is finished...now you just have to jump in with both feet.

Oh ya...I would stick with the GM temp and oil pressure switches, as well as the GM alternator...the Dodge Cummins alternator is built into the Dodge computer. The GM alternator is internally regulated...You COULD use an external voltage regulator if you don't want to use the GM alternator...Also, since the P30 was originally outfitted with a 6.5, you will probably have to move your A/C compressor up, or the frame will be in the way. Check out AutoWorld MT for brackets and motor mounts to make it sit in the frame without any frame modifications.
