gas convert to diesel
I just joined this site and love what I see. I have a 98 dodge 3/4 ton quad cab short box. everything it is equipped with says it should be a cummins. BUT... this must have been one of those friday jobs and someone forgot to do it. I got the 5.9 gasser. After lots of time searching for the right deal i have located a 93 cummins in canada and have purchased for the transplant. If there is anyone out there who has done this before or has any advice or tips I would love to know before i get started. Also if anyone has any parts to offer or knows someplace i can get them reasonably that would be great too. I need the bell housing for the NV4500 and all the clutch parts, an intercooler, and motor mounts, and a radiator. If this is not the place to list this let me know but i love this site. any and all advice is awesome.

Just wondering how you were making out with your search. I'm also in the search process,I purchased a 12v out of a wrecked 95' model along with most of the elect. parts.I have already done the tranny swap from auto to standard and still running the gas motor untill I do a bit more research. Would like to hear what you come up with, every little bit helps.(PS) The tranny swap was a piece of cake, don't let anybody tell you it can't be done.

Well my swap got sidelined but with the great money the gov is given me back for buyin a house OH BABY!! the motor swap is on, I found an engine and trans combo for 1500 and im hopin to get most of the stuff outta the truck to do the swap. What I do need to find out is if the input shaft is different sized between the gasser and the cummins. otherwise i will have to find a time to put the truck down. how is yours cummin? pun so intended HA HA

Just wanted to let you know that you will have to swap out the input shaft, along with the front retainer plate. I should have researched this better before I replied to your question. the diesel (as they tell me ) takes a 22 spline input. This is not rocket science to replace this part, it's a piece of cake. Got started sooner than I had planned on, My poor gas job just couldn't hang in there any longer. Final mileage was 243,000. Not bad !
