Default "Reverse Conversion"

A friend of mine came across a free early 80's F-250 4X4 with the 6.9 and a 4 speed. He has a 351 in a totaled 78 Ford that he wants to swap into the 80's pickup. He was wondering if it'll bolt into it. What all would he need in the way of adapters? I'm sure the motor mounts will need to be changed too. I'm under the impression that the bellhousing is the same for the two engines. Before this idea gets blasted, know he has a twin to this pickup with a good 6.9 in it. I'm just trying to get some feedback on this swap for him so he can get it running.

i know the 351 windsor will not bolt to that tranny. im sure you could find a cheap tranny on the c-list or something. the 351c or evn the 351m may. i just dont know much about then as i have had both but never did any kind of swapping. im sure with a four speed you could look for a new bell housing. pull the mounts out of the 78. keep in mind the 6.9 is 29 years old and if you rebuild it you could get another 30 years out of it. i dont think a 351 will last 30 years in a big 250.... shoot most of the 4x4 gassers i have had i spray with nos and beat the chit out of them. two years max

It's a 351m. The 6.9 has been sitting dead for over ten years. I know the 351 and 460 have the same bell housing bolt pattern. So I'm figuring the 460 and the 6.9 have the same also since they were in the same trucks. This 250 will be just a ranch truck. Feeding cows in the winter, hauling hay and stuff like that.
