www.dovebid.com is an auction site that has a lot of bread vans w/ the 3.9 cummins. They run a sale once a month and tomorrow is the big day. They have trucks from all over the country, mostly old frito trucks. They can go anywhere from $600 up to $3000 if you get in a bidding war.

I have a future project in mind that I would want someones a opinion on.

My dad has 1990 Mercury Grand Merquis with a 5.0L gasser in it. the car is in awesome condition so I think it would be a good candidate for a swap.

The plan is to find a bread truck with the 4bt in it with an auto I believe they but 400 gm trans. in some of them. Pull the motor and trans. and scrap the rest.

I believe the 4bt may fit, but may require fire wall and hood modifications.

It will need suspension mods most likely.

Default Cummins 4BT Vibration

I put a 1986 Cummins 4BT in my Jeep J10 pickup. There was vibration at cold idle, but it was smoother at about 2000 rpm.

I used Dodge 6BT 1st generation motor mounts. I also installed a set of Gaberal air lift shocks on the front, they smoothed some of the vibration.

Last, I installed a 1st generation (Dodge 6BT 12 valve) silicone filled harmonic damper from Fluidampr. Now I have very little cold vibration and no highway vibration.

From what I have learned the silicone filled dampers work best. Cummins makes a 'B' series silicone damper and there are some aftermarket dampers for the 6BT.

The damper I bought from Summit Racing was around $450.00. I don't know how much the Cummins damper is or how much the other aftermarket dampers are.
