Cummins In 05/06 Chevy or GMC?
I was wondering if it was possible to put a cummins common rail in a 2005 or 2006 chevy or gmc 2500hd. I like those style of trucks and they are lighter than the 8000 pound ford super duty. Would it be worth it or is the duramax good enough to bomb itself. This project if possible is kind of a dream truck for me and was wonderin if worth looking further into. Or is the ford f250/350 with a cummins and allison really the ultimate truck.

Anythings possible, all it takes is $$$. The Duramax is one heck of a motor and can be bombed as stout as a Cummins IMO But the Cummins is alot simpler motor. Also does it matter if the truck has a solid front axle or not, another thing to look at. But it'd be neat with a Cummins for sure, I can't say I've seen a new body style chev with a Cummins in it b4... I wonder though if the chevy front end can take the weight of the Cummins? I'm sure you'll get lotsa input on this one and Welcome to the site!

Thanks for the reply. I would probably go with the solid axle conversion just because they are better. But other questions come to mind: would the cummins cr actually fit in the engine bay without moving the firewall or other major mods? and what is the weight of the cummins over the duramax? I have looked all over the internet and cant get a straight answer anywhere. Thanks

Cummins weighs in at around 1100 pounds. I can get you dimensions on the Cummins if you need it. I'm not sure what the space restrictions are on the newer GMs. If you could find a theft recovery that was in good shape cheap it would be worth it to tinker with or a blown up gas truck. Depending on what you want to do with it the IFS should hold fine.

Not sure about the size difference but the Cummins will be longer for sure. If you don't have to mod the firewall, you will be running electric fans for sure. Like said the Cummins weighs 1100ish LBS and the Duramax is 840ish LBS.
A SAS late model Chevy powered by a Cummins with an Allison behind it would be one hell of a combination!

That truck looks to be a 2wd or he has lowerd it. But swapping is possible Woodruff put in a CR in a 04 Chevy I tink he was tired of blowing up DMAX DMAX is a good motor but you need to replace rods and pistons like crazy if you go for performance. I plan on one day doing a swap but it will be a P Pump conversion. That is my thing.
