New to the forum but have read in this forum several times. Now i need to ask something so i finally joined. So im going tomorrow to look at an 01 cummins that a guy put an 02 engine in and said he cant get it running. Im looking at possibly buying the truck. Ive been reading for a few hours on all the possibilitys. Just need to know for sure what all i need to look at before i make a decision. Please add anything im missong and correct me if im wrong. I need to check on the valve cover to see if the engine is an ho or so. I need to know if engine was for auto or manuel. Need to know if truck was ho or so auto or manuel which ecm is being used and fuel pump. Will the truck vin tell me if the engine was ho or so? can i have the ecm reprogrammed to run whichever motor it is? If so where? And if the trannys were different will i have to have a wiring harness? Also can a programmer be used instead of reprogramming the ecm? Thanks for any input you can give me.
