Default Mazda 2.0 RF in Ranger

Greetings all, new member here, been lurking in the shadows for a while. I'm impressed with all the innovation I see here. So I guess I'll post my latest project. I've been wanting to do a diesel conversion / mileage getter for a while now and finally got a pretty decent 1990 Ranger regular cab. The engine I'm using came from a Ford Escort Diesel, right now I'm using an extra block I had laying around to see how things measure up. I learned that the transmission from a Mazda B2200 87-93? will bolt right up to the RF engine. And a flywheel from a Kia Sportage will fit on the RF crank and allow use of the Mazda clutch. I know the NA RF isn't the most powerful engine but it's rated at 52hp which is pretty close to the Kubota V2203. We'll see how this goes!

Default Pics

Here are some pics of the beginnings of this project. The first pic is the Kia flywheel bolted to the RF crank. Second is the Mazda pressure plate on the Kia flywheel. Third is the Mazda B2200 trans bolted to the RF. 4th is the starter held in place on the shim plate. One challenge will be mounting the starter. To use the B2200 starter on the RH side the oil line and exhaust would have to be modified. To use the Escort starter on the LH side a section needs to be cut out of the bell housing and the starter needs to be set out approx .400 in.
I'm considering making a starter bracket that is also a spacer plate and mounts to the block.

Interesting install. I look forward to seeing how it works out. Where would one find that engine?

This one is from a Ford Escort diesel. They were also an option in Tempos from I believe 84-87, and in Mazda 626's. I seem to stumble across them and have 4 of them right now.
