The motor mounts were fabbed out of 1/4" steel by a good friend, Barney Felt, who has some mad metal working skills. They consisted of three separate pieces that were then welded together after we determined the best configuration. I"ll get a close up of the welds he threw in there. On that note I would also add, I am comfortable tack welding something like this together. But for a finished project that has to get you home, ten years away and ten miles from a real road, I get a pro to finish.

For the oil pressure sensor, I wanted to try to use the jeep unit, just like all of us do. I looked at the fabrication by Evenglass using a modified Mercedes fitting and thought I could do that. My engine, however, was missing that fitting and had a bolt in it's place sealed with silicone. After removing the bolt, I looked at the hole and thought it was about the same as 1/4" pipe thread. I removed the plate from the oil filter housing, carefully bored the hole with a 7/16" drill, and re-tapped with a 1/4" NPT tap. I'll have to add 11/2" nipple to clear the oil filter housing, but it worked beautifully.

Ok guys, sorry for the hiatus, got busy with other things. Funny how your life happens around you and you don't have near the control you thought you had. Anyway, the silver lining on all this is that the wife told me to get the jeep done before we start any home projects we have lined up.... Sounds like the green light to me! I'll go through this post and look at all my pictures and try to get some new material posted tonight. I am so looking forward to this!https://www.dieselbombers.com/images.../JC_hurrah.gif

lets see if this works. OK! it worked! This is the re-engineered motor mount arm coming off the drivers side of the engine. I moves the engine back and up about 2 inches. Also shows the Corvette liquid filled motor mount. The plate against the block is 3/8 inch cold rolled bar stock, and the arms are 1/4 inch same. Added the little gusset arm for my own peace of mind.

OK this is what I was dealing with prior to the new arms. The first picture is the stock arm resting on the stock Mercedes mount. If you look past the mount, you can see how close the pan is getting to the front pumpkin. The second picture shows the proximity of the front of the engine to the radiator. it was about 2 1/2 inches. Maybe 3 1/2.

The perches for the mounts are located about the only place I could find. They are sitting right over the upper control arms, and looking back on it I should have come up with better design. At the time I was still trying to keep the stock arms, mounts, and oil filter. With the new motor mounts, the passenger side of the oil pan was contacting the perch on that side. Nothing a cut off wheel and grinder couldn't handle!

So here are some new pictures of the motor mounts in the jeep. First is the drivers side, I had to grind a little off the top so the bolt for the AC compressor would clear. On the passenger side you can see the conflict between the frame mount and the oil pan and the cutoff for clearance. The last shot shows how far the motor has moved up and back.
