sounds good, thanks

Oops, i don't want to pass on any incorrect Ranger trans. info, looks like the 4.0 ltr. used the M50D-R1 TRANS. from '91 thru 2000. Theres a good chart at TRS (therangerstation.com)

Just joined this forum to jump on the band wagon. I have a Bronco II and a new-to-me Kubota V2203. Looks like you have the parts to put it all together. Did you have to run a spacer behind the flywheel to make up for the adapter plate thickness? Are you running a/c as well?

Gaines12 10-01-2013 06:46 PM

No I didn't, we used the Kubota flywheel and milled it down and drilled it to a ford clutch and the proper depth. my first truck is not running a/c we are working on a new accessory plate that will be using the a/c as an option.

Any word on motors yet? im waiting on my machinist to get back to me about the adapter plate still.

kuyota toybota 10-01-2013 11:28 PM

Hey Gains12, I talked to the head honcho today at the kubota dealer ship he said there's some outfit out of ohio that buy's the engine cores. And that if I would be willing to match there offer then I could buy any or all of them. He said there's about 25 engines, more than I care to rebuild. He also said that he would know by the end of the week about prices and give me a model inventory and I will pass that info on to you when I have it. I think they will be pretty reasonable well we'll know soon.

Hey Bernard, good question I was thinking with the 1" adapter plate ferther seperating the trans. to engine location. That the added thickness of the kubota flywheel would help compensate for the adapter. Obviously the fly wheel is still to thick and needs to be cut the question is how much. There are so many applications for these engines that it is possible that the fly wheels have different thickneses. The Ranger / bronco pressure plate mount holes are darn close to the kubota ones. I thought it might be possible to use the kubota pressure plate and the Ford clutch disk provided the throw out bearing would jive with the p.p. fingers, thanks for your input.

Gaines12 10-02-2013 08:59 PM

I have the numbers for milling down the flywheel, we wrote up a program in mastercam. By the time you mill it all the way down the Kubota clutch holes are gone I believe. it takes a lot off...... plus the Kubota pilot bearing hole is smaller so the ford bearing and input shaft will not fit unless its drilled out. I believe ford clutches are cheap and that another reason I went with the ford clutch setup. Im excited about the motors, im thinking more and more about doing a 6 cyl swap just for fun. And also, I might try and develop something to run the automatic ranger transmission I think its an ALD4 or something like that. they say they are weak but you can modify them cheap. Idk be kinda cool, It comes in an electronic and none electronic version! But sadly I cant do much from here at college but come up with ideas and designs, no hands on for 2 more weeks.... Then ill have 10 Weeks of paid intern working nights and days off! :jump:

Depending on prices of motors, I might buy a v2203 and see how much I can modify it to hold power wise. Maybe cross-reference parts off another bigger motor or something. Pistons, rods, cam, that kinda thing.:humm:
Im defiantly getting into these swaps though, gunna try and invest a lot of money while im young and can afford too. There could be a good future for diesel vehicles considering the Kenworth dealership is regearing to work on CNG trucks because their becoming more and more popular, which means diesel surplus!

engine cores

:argh:Well did not hear anything yet on the kubota cores I will fallow up on monday. I tried to send a long detailed post last night but it has seemed to evaperated into cyber space or something if it shows up I'll try and post it. I'm a heavy equipment opperator and a 1 finger typer.

Bioman 10-06-2013 07:08 PM

Hey Gaines12 bioman here. I would be interested in one of your trans adapter plates as well as accessories plates also. Or even the master am program. I also like that you are thinking ahead and planning to invest in yourself while your young. Damn I wish that would be required class right from kindergarten thru college. Good luck.

Gaines12 10-08-2013 09:03 PM

Sorry it took me so long to get back to you all on this, the plates are supposed to be water jetted tomorrow. Then we will have to take them and have them milled. So maybe by the beginning of next week I can get some mailed out. Right now we have 2. Aluminum is pretty high right now so ill have to come up with some money if I need more. If you want one send me a pm. Any word on the motors yet?

motor cores

Yes, I did talk to to Travis about the motors and he said he would send me a e-mail with a list of motors and pricing that was monday. He did give me some basic prices over the phone and here they are... $500 for the 3 bangers , $1000 for the 2203 & 2403 some with turbos and between $1500 to $2400 for the interm teir 4 larger motors .When I get the list I will pass it on to you and let you deal with him directly. Honestly I thought the prices would be better on the cores as I have done pretty good before. Have you checked out Surplus center on new motors There prices are reasonable.

---AutoMerged DoublePost---

Yes, I would like to get one of the adapter plates you have on hand the M seiries V2203 HAS A COUNTER SHAFT near where the starter mounts so I should get a mesurement from the upper starter bolt hole to the top right bell housing hole as viewed from the back .I'm pretty sure it will work but just want to make sure. Thanks. Also where should I send the postal M.O.
