Default 1959 Chevy 3600 Apache

I have a 1959 Chevy Apache 3600 that I am going to be putting a 2 stroke Detroit in as the power plant. I want to use a 4-53 or 6-53. But was wondering if a 6-71 or 4-71 would be to heavy for the truck.

i would say ya. i think i read on here that an iron 4 weighs in the neighborhood of 1200 lbs. a little less for the aluminum. a 6-71 is around 2000. both give or take depending on block type and the amount of junk hangin' off of it.

these engines are just large.

it'd be pretty cool tho, if you can get it shoe-horned in there

Aw, hell yes; love the sound of a screaming jimmy.

Apparently, a 4-53 weighs 1110lbs; a 6V53, 1485lbs; 4-71 is 1780, 6-71 is up around 2190. (And a 6V71 is a tiny bit lighter at 2010.) Weighs from here; doesn't say whether aluminium or iron, so I'd assume they're the best-case weights. (Hope for the best, prepare for the worst.)

Hope you manage to get it fit in there; that truck'll be sweet.

Im leaning towards either the 6-53 or 4-71. I lookin to do air start, twin stick, and 2 speed rear end. I want gears plus it gives me one more reason not to go to town. Most say I'm crazy but I want something original. Or at least different.
