Ok so I have been toying with the idea of doing a cummins swap in my truck for a long while now and I feel it's about time to do it.

I am wondering if there is anyone in the Phoenix area that has dealt with it. I want to know if they are strict with emissions and inspections? In Colorado, where I just moved from, you were required to have an engine that is the same year or newer with the same/if not "better" emissions controlling devices installed ie cats egr and crap...

Ideally I want a 12v but if I have to go with a CR I will.

I really want to get this project going. So please I know there has to be someone who has some info?!

I used to live in mesa, and now live in colorado, the emission laws are the same in pheonix, it has to have the same year of engine or newer in the pheonix area, and if the truck came with a cat it must have a cat installed on the exhaust, you can get away with the muffler since their is no noise ordinance on Diesel Trucks.

With the common rail the hardest task will be making the computers talk to one another, and I preffer the common rail and 24 valve over the 12 valve, but thats just me. Common rail engines are more expensive over the VP44 24 Valve, but the fuel system is much simpler and better. Good luck, its not a cheap project, so get it done right the first time.

 

Thanks! I figured it was about the same since they follow the EPA laws. I found a 2004 Common Rail for a good price so I'll go that route. I also live in Mesa. Are they pretty **** with the visual inspections?

Yea I wanted the 12v because of the simplicity but I want to make sure if I move again I will be able to register the truck. But I'll have to go with the CR. I've takes with the people at Destroked when I lived in Colorado, so I have a good grasp what I am getting into.

 

ya the emission center on Greenfield and mckellips will check underneath the truck for a catylitic converter. I live in a rural area and we dont have emissions here.
